Estonian Wood Day : schools and chairs
4.december - 7 january in Tartu city, Estonia.Organizers were : Estonian Forest Industries project "puuinfo.ee" ( wood info ) and project "Tee metsa" ( afforest ), Tartu Science Park project GATE, Tartu city, Environmental Investment Centre and Estonian University of Life Sciences ( Department of Forest Management and Industry ).
Purpose :
Students from Tartu city and Tartu County, who are studding in primary school, made 500 wooden chairs and painted them with different pictures and symbols. This event was a part of the woodshop lesson in there schools. The finished chairs were given as a gift to Tartu city kindergartens.
Outcome :
With help of students, chairs were put together from prefab elements, and then they were ebonized and illustrated with different paintings. Because of this , every chair is a work of art, and gave the joy of creation for the makers and for the small kids.
During the time it was important to bring to attention to wood. As a natural and renewable material. In seminars people talked about the meaning of wood for Estonian society and for the economy.
In a trade center were put together an exhibition, which pictures you see below.
